Inspired by stories of Max Verstappen training as a young lad in the pouring rain with fingers frozen, Kate was out practising yesterday in the pouring rain with fingers frozen.
More seat time was what she was after, and that what's she got. Even the falling snow didn't put her off as we set out.
We were training at Traq with her 1980s twin-engined Stratos kart. It's a kart she picked up as a swap for a quad bike project she'd grown bored with. It's the kart she's not afraid to bash a bit. It's taken a while to make it track-ready (finding parts is tricky, and it needed patience and some thorough hunting to find the correct sized o-rings for the pistons in the brake calipers). But, it's finally ready for the track at Traq. And we took it out in the rain (on slicks) for some real Max-Verstappen-style cold weather and slicks in rain training.
And, despite the frozen fingers (which Kate warmed up every 10 minutes on the two exhausts just like Max) and the very soggy feet (Kate will remember her wet-weather shoe covers next time), Kate had an absolute blast.
And this is our new regime. Track time at Traq with the Stratos kart. There's nowhere else you can take your kart on a track for the day for £30. So now she has plenty of time to train to the max.
Love the dedication and the 80`s kart looks fabulous too
